Carolina Homechek, Inc. is owned and operated by North Carolina home inspector Van Durrett. Van started his home inspection business after deciding to leave the construction and engineering industry for a new career.
He is an educated and experienced professional with over 12 years of home inspection experience under his belt and has also been a North Carolina Licensed General Contractor for more than 15 years. Having completed over 1,000 thorough home inspections over the years, he is more than qualified to give home buyers the advice and information that they are looking for as they enter into homeownership and an exciting new chapter of their lives.

Career Background – Construction and Electrical Engineering
After graduating with a BS Degree in Electrical Engineering, Van worked for 17 Years at IBM as an electrical engineer and programmer. The job required him to be meticulous, patient, and detail-oriented, which are all skills that he puts to use while inspecting homes today. Wanting to work closely with homes, Van eventually left the electrical engineering field to become a licensed general contractor and the owner of own his company, Durrett Construction, for the next 6 years. His knowledge of home construction paired with his engineering background made him a great fit for a career in home inspection. He started inspecting homes in 2006, eventually founding Carolina Homechek, Inc.
